Court & self-help tools

A workbench for your next step.

Find a form, organize a record, or prepare a question for a lawyer. You can do some of the preparation yourself and still ask for help with the parts that need legal judgment.

Start with any deadline. Check the notice, order and applicable rules. Creating a draft or asking a question here does not file anything or extend your time.

Choose a state for court self-help, legal aid and lawyer referrals.

A few checks before you file

Use the right court’s forms and instructions

Check that the form matches your court, matter and current requirements. A generic template may not satisfy local rules. Ask the clerk where to find procedural instructions.

Separate preparation, filing and service

Saving a document in JustLegal is not filing it with a court. Confirm the filing method, required copies, fees or fee waiver, and how documents must be served.

Make evidence easy to follow

Keep originals, record dates and identify where each document came from. Connect documents to the events they support. Keep sensitive information out of public filings unless required, and check redaction rules.

Know when to ask a person

A lawyer can review a specific document, assess options or explain a deadline. Ask about limited-scope services if you do not need or cannot afford full representation.

JustLegal provides free educational information and organization tools. We are not a law firm and do not provide legal advice or representation. Providers decide eligibility, availability, fees, and whether to accept a matter.
